Newcastle City Precinct will come to life on Thursday 20 September with Energise – a celebration of energy and ideas, the spirit of creativity, the heart of imagination and the joy of community. Get a group of friends together and head into the city for music, a moonlight movie, roving performers, twilight markets, food and fun.
Accompanied by a live human canvas painting experiment, Banjo Beats and Tesseract will be taking hold of Watt Space.
Three live musical acts take over the ready-made stage that is the front steps of the NewSpace building. Bodie Sauceman, Shrimp, Pocket Jazz will be accompanied by live portrait painters, painting free portraits of passersby thru-out the afternoon.
Local singer / songwriter Waria accompanied by theatrical performance with performers creating tableaux will make their mark across the various levels of the blocks & seating of the foyer/cafe area. Pianist extraordinaire Chinnu V will be performing improvisations from the internal foyer balcony, and four national level dancers from Catapult Dance Studios making use of escalators, stairs & the various unique architectural elements of the space.
UON’s multi-award winning chamber choir Echology will be performing at 6.30pm in the foyer.
The Campus Green will host a live stage set being built across the day from cardboard, paint & recycled materials. Artists will invite audience to participate in building & decorating a large scale improvised stage set, with musical artists Rodney Coote, James Brew & Holly Brazel & electronic artist Simon Ritchie (aka Somnus Lak).
